    NDIS Support Workers in Sydney

Support workers are the people who show up — helping with personal care, getting out into the community, keeping a household running, or giving a family carer a break. If you are looking for support workers in Sydney, My Care Link Australia is a free service that connects you with disability-support providers based on what you describe.

We do not employ support workers and we do not hold live rosters, so this page cannot tell you who is available this week. It can help you work out what to ask for, which is usually the slowest part of the process.

    What support workers help with

Most support in an NDIS plan is delivered by support workers under core supports. The mix is different for everyone, but the categories below cover what people most often ask us for. Each links to a fuller explanation if you want the detail.

    • Personal care — showering, dressing, toileting and other daily self-care.
    • Help at home — household tasks, routines and staying on top of a home.
    • Community participation — getting out, activities, appointments and social connection.
    • Transport — getting to work, study, therapy and appointments.
    • Respite care — planned breaks for family carers, in home or elsewhere.
    • Overnight and active-at-night support, where a provider offers it.

    Finding support workers across Sydney

Sydney has a large workforce, but coverage is uneven and it is not uniform across the week. Weekday daytime hours are the easiest to fill. Early mornings, evenings, weekends and short shifts of an hour or two are consistently harder — and in the outer suburbs, travel time between clients makes short shifts harder still.

You will usually get better results if you can describe your ideal roster in blocks rather than scattered hours, and if you can name a couple of days that are flexible. Providers staff against patterns, so a predictable weekly pattern is easier to fill than an irregular one.

The other thing worth stating up front is fit. Gender of worker, language spoken, cultural background, experience with a specific disability, comfort with pets, driving and a car — these are all reasonable to specify, and specifying them early avoids a series of introductions that do not work out.

What to include in your enquiry

The more concrete the request, the faster a provider can say yes or no. A useful enquiry usually covers:

    • Your suburb, and whether you would consider workers travelling from nearby areas.
    • Roughly how many hours a week, and which days and times.
    • The tasks involved, including personal care or manual handling if relevant.
    • Any preferences about the worker — gender, language, experience, driving.
    • How your plan is managed, since it affects which providers you can use.

Registration, rates and your choice of provider

Support work is charged against your core supports budget at rates set out in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, with different rates for weekdays, evenings, weekends and public holidays. Ask any provider to walk you through how they bill so there are no surprises when the invoices arrive.

NDIA-managed plans generally require an NDIS-registered provider. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can usually also use unregistered providers, which widens the field. We do not certify registration or availability — confirm both directly. Our matching service is free for the person enquiring; see how provider matching works for what happens after you get in touch.

Common questions about support workers in Sydney

How quickly can I get a support worker in Sydney?

It depends on the hours you need. Weekday daytime shifts are usually filled fastest; early mornings, evenings, weekends and very short shifts take longer. We aim to come back with provider options within 24 hours, but the provider sets the start date.

Can I choose my support worker?

Providers vary. Many will introduce a worker and replace them if the fit is not right, and some let you meet a shortlist first. Ask about this before signing a service agreement.

How much do NDIS support workers cost in Sydney?

Rates follow the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and change with the day and time of the shift — evenings, weekends and public holidays cost more. The amount comes out of your core supports budget. Ask each provider for their rate schedule in writing.

Do you charge for finding support workers?

No. My Care Link Australia is free for participants, families and nominees. There is no obligation to work with anyone we introduce.
