    Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) provides low-cost, entry-level support to help older Australians stay independent at home.

    What it is

CHSP covers small, regular supports — like cleaning, lawn mowing, transport, social outings, meals and respite — delivered by approved providers across Australia.

    Who it's for

Older Australians (usually 65+, or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who need a little help to stay at home.

    Common questions

    Is CHSP free?

There's usually a small client contribution. Costs are kept low so the programme stays accessible.

Can I move from CHSP to a Home Care Package later?

Yes. Many people start with CHSP and move to a Home Care Package as their needs grow.
