What the role covers

Support work ranges from personal care through daily living help to community participation. Most participants use a mix, and the balance shifts as goals change.

The single biggest predictor of a good arrangement is worker fit and consistency. Name your preferences — gender, language, interests, whether the worker needs a car — and be specific about the routine you want supported, because that is what providers roster against.

Adelaide's compact geography works in your favour. Travel between the CBD, the north and the south is manageable, so providers can staff across the metro area more readily than in Perth or Brisbane. Short shifts are less of a problem here than elsewhere.

Supply is thinner in the northern suburbs around Elizabeth and Salisbury and in the outer south, particularly for evening and weekend hours. Specialist support — high-intensity care, complex behaviour support — is also concentrated among a smaller number of providers, so start those conversations early.

What it costs

Support work is funded from your Core Supports budget and billed at national NDIS price limits. Weekday daytime is the base rate; evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are higher. Provider travel is claimable within limits.

NDIA-managed participants generally need registered providers. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can also use unregistered providers and independent workers. Confirm which applies before you shortlist, because it determines your options.
